Tasmin 280 fuel accumulator
Discussion
Having started work on the fuel system of my FHC, I have found the accumulator has a lot of surface rust.
I took it, along with the fuel pump and filter off the car, was going to just buy a new one but after looking at the price of it am thinking again.
Is the accumulator a part likely to fail, as I see it, it is a basic mechanical part which appears bad on the outside, but probably fine inside?

Hi mate
The accumulator aids hot starting...I ran my 280i without one for ages and used 1/4 throttle to start from hot.
Inside the unit there is a very large spring and diaphragm ..There is an inlet and outlet and on the rear of the unit there should be a pipe coming off which is the breather...If you clamp the hose going to the bulkhead and remove the pipe from the rear...Remove the plug on the metering unit..(Green/blue) and test by briefly turning the key to position 1...Do not start the car...The pump should prime with the metering head plug removed....If fuel comes out of this breather then the unit has failed....
Hope this helps..

Yep...Thats normal...Be careful when changing the bulkhead fuel filter..Always use new correct copper washers or alloy and never hold the nut on the filter and use as a lever....There is a bit of a technique tightening the banjo's down.
If you have a swirl pot/res tank then they have a mesh type filter...Not very good so you could use a pre-filter for the pump...The accumulator doesn't have much to get clogged up inside anyway so the bulkhead filter prevents the metering head...WUR and injectors form getting contaminated...

Done a test on the fuel pump and accumulator, all is working fine!
Have got a new filter fitted after the pump, going to get one to go pre pump as well ( though will flush through the fuel tanks).
I don't have a pot on the car, just at T, any recommendations for a cheap inline filter?
