I need to get some tyres for my 16" x 9"s and was looking for some advise on which tyre is a good compromise on price/grip/longevity?
Also any recomendations on the best / cheapest place to buy would be appreciated.
I will be needing 2x 245/45/16's and 2x 225/45/16's
Thanks in advance

I have SO3s,lucky to get 4,000 miles out of the rears. They tramline at slow speeds but are great going at speed{this may have to do with how the car is set up}Great at warp speed in the wet too.Alot of people like Toyos,i've not tried them so can't comment.

For the rear Goodyear GSD2s, if you can find them Bridgestone SO3PPs, or Toyo T1-R. Yokohama Advan Neova for the front http://340r.net/news/neova.htm

Steve ,
Interested to hear you like the SO3's , I detest the things and can't wait to get them off.
Was thinking of Goodyears next .
My car is only a toy Neil,i can put up with the tyres a slow speeds, when i'm out hooning up Noth Yorks they stick like glue, don't forget mine runs on 16" rims too.{maybe it makes a difference}I've had Yokohamas, ones they use on the porche turbo they did't tramline quite as bad but they were not as good on the limits.Good reports on Toyos though
I don't think you can get the so3pp any more

I've recently been looking into this as well. Falken FK451s seem to have a reasonable reputation and 245/45/16 Y rating are obtainable for well under a £100 each. No personal experience - yet. Anyone else using these?
After making a few calls this morning it seems the choice is rather limited. SO3's are discontinuted (apparently) so the two best remaining choices are Falken GRB FK451's or Toyo T1R's. I'm being quoted 82 for the Falkens and 114 for the Toyo's. Anyone running either of these tyres at the moment?
Lots of positive comments on the Toyo Proxes on old threads on the Griff. forum, although they may need adjustment to pressures compared to the Bridgestones. I'm also looking for some new boots for my 400, and was tempted by the T1S. However, talking to Toyo this morning, they tell me that the T1S has been superceded by the T1R, and there are no plans to make this new tyre in the size I need, although they do have stocks of the old model. I would go back to Yoko., but again, they don't make the AVS in the right size. Not too bothered about wear rates, grip is what I want. I seems inevitable that choices of decent rubber will continue to decline in 15" rim sizes.
As an aside, it seems that the "recommended" rim width for tyres of 225 x 50 x 15 is between 6" and 8", which is fine for most applications, except that I run 8.5" rims on the rear, although I've never encountered any problems to do with tyre size.
Unless of course, someone knows of a stash of S02's that they're willing to share.....
Paul.

I personally would never mix tyre types on a car, it can result in 'interesting' handling.
Yes, in an ideal world but given that the rubber of choice is not available for both front and rear would you rather fit different first class choices (D3s, T1-Rs, Neovas) or fit the same second class all round (Falken, Fulda, etc.) I'd rather go for the former because although not perfectly balanced the limits will be higher.
