Gents, about to do the "Adam Quantrill" gearbox flush and Mobil 1 refill on the 390SE but the filler plug does not exist on the side where it usually sits. There is however a plug towards the back on the box, on the opposite side as per photo below. Can someone please confirm that this is a suitable alternative fill point? Thanks.

No was just an image off Google that showed the plug location. My gearbox is still in place under the car.

Good stuff - we've seen a few like this now.

It's not "my" method though I've used it, the plaudits go to HonestJohnToo.

Then you'll be needing one of these. Make sure you get the nozzle in the correct hole or it could be a disaster. I use Silverhook MTF-94 fully synthetic gear oil. It does exactly what it says on the tin. I don't rely on home mix remedies. Good luck.

Thanks Tony. Last time I flushed the 350i box I ran a length of clear hose from engine bay down to the filler hole and put a funnel in the top of the hose.

Slight variation, mine holds 2L, a mini fluid pump, super easy and no mess

I use a flexible tube above the car, but at the top a slightly different method.

I have a standard gallon container cap, drilled, with a pipe fixed into it. The flexible pipe pushes onto this, and the container cap goes onto the oil container.

Then I use a large G clamp (or woodworking cramp) to squeeze the container. Not too hard though or the lid will pop off! This shifts the oil a lot quicker - at the beginning I can leave it unattended and have a cup of tea or summat.

Also it helps if you warm the oil up on a radiator for a few hours, although for the Mobil, it doesn't make much difference, as the viscosity is pretty constant.

Yep, oil will be kept in the very warm airing cupboard overnight in advance. Just bought a gallon of Mobil 1, gallon of Morris Classic 20/50, cheap bottle of ATF for flushing, tube of gearbox Moly and a can of Wynns engine stop leak, oh and one of Pauls recommended Wynns gasket maker tubes - £96 bloomin' quid. Ouch.
