The age old Tyre question.
Discussion
I have just read an old thread on here, My wedge is going to need some new boots soon, as far as I can tell I should be putting 205/60/15s on my 350i, am I right?
If I am has anyone any experience of the Avon ZV7 tyre on the wedge? looks like a decent compromise between cost and grip as far as I can tell but I havent had any avons for years so I dont know how good they are

Rainsport 3 is better.
Nankang NS-2R if your car only sees dry weather.
Dunlop Blueresponse is also very good.
All the above are available in either 205 or 195 in a 15-inch.
I've been very impressed with the Micelin Cross Climate on my Touran. Not sure it is available in 15-inch though.

Andy, I had Avon ZV3's on the wedge when I bought it (11 years ago!!), rears lasted about 12K, and were good for both wet and dry grip. The fronts still have 6mm tread left on them after 20K miles! (Although I've swapped the wheels over now)
I have been told tyres have a lifespan of 5 years before they start going hard and losing grip, you have had yours on for 11 years My current rears are Uniroyal rainexpert and to be fair I quite like them,I definitely want to replace the Nexens on the front as they are a bit narrower than they should be. It might just come down to price, MOT is due and whilst the rears are at the lower and of legal if the MOT costs a lot I will have a smaller budget for new tyres

I was told that the rubber degrades, not with time, but with UV, My car is tucked up in the garage most of the time. The tyres had no cracks / cuts / blisters, and gripped as well as when they were new.

Upon closer inspection, mine are 3 and not 2...Had a spirited-ish run (in parts) on dry to greasy roads at the weekend with billynobrakes and not once did I lose traction. Only once pulling out of a junction after I picked my daughter up did I managed to light up the rears. Obviously need to push harder!

Yes definitely Rainsport 3,s and must admit they was great on "Priscilla" might have to bite the bullit and get them on the Gredge but I have noticed the tyres do rub slightly so thought I would get 40mm profile and they only come on Toyos but they are only C rated in the wet so it looks like rainsport
