Just dusting the old wedge off in preparation for summer, shes decided to raise a few fault codes including a low fuel pressure. Just wondering if anyone has any opinion which is the most likely candidate, fuel regulator or pump?

I'd change the filter first before spending a lot on money on other possibilities. It does have enough fuel in doesn't it? laugh It's been done.

Hi mate

Its been a while...Are we talking 280i or 350i?....How do you know you have low fuel pressure?..Do you have a FPR gauge fitted?...If its a 350i with a FRP gauge then it could be the pump...

Cheers

Thanks for the quick responses and yes zig its been a while. 400SE, fuel filter has been replaced and no i havent checked the pressure with a gauge just read the fault code using Rovergauge, just says low fuel pressure.

Pump is quite noisy, you can hear it whirring away even with the engine running. Guess i should plumb in a gauge and check.

Have you tried clearing the codes and restarting? The ECU stores historical codes even if the fault has subsequently cleared itself. use Rovergauge to clear all the old codes and restart. Worth a try maybe.

Yep, Rovergauge is a bit old but i updated it slightly, it serves a basic purpose the 14CUX live data can be quite useful sometimes

Yes, cleared the codes but it comes back a few seconds after engine start.

Might be worth fitting a test gauge then...That way you can check the pressure at WOT...and also stall and return pressure...

OK then, check the sensors on the fuel rail to see if there is a loose wire or faulty connector. I can't remember which sensor is the temperature and which is pressure without looking them up.

How is the car running? Does it feel like fuel starvation?
