400se headlights

need some help just refitting the headlights in the 400 and one of the plates has a cut out in the bottom any one now which side it goes

Do you mean the flat black plates that are screwed onto the front of the pods?

I think one is left and one is right you have to line up the adjuster screws with the matching reflector.

that's the ones but one of my plates has a large section on the bottom cut away as if to miss the motor and bracket
