Hi,
I am replacing the rear shocks and springs on my 280i. when i have taken the old spring off, there is a square of rubber with a hole in the middle in between the spring and the top mount. Does anyone no if this should be there, it all looks a little makeshift to me and i cant see it in the manual.

thanks
Colin

IIRC there should be a proper moulded spring seat in there, it may be someone's lashup to replace a crumbled one.

I have recently removed my rear springs and they are metal to metal - no rubber.

Must confess I don't remember there being a rubber mounting on my rear springs. The front's have a rubber mount at the bottom.

Mine was the same. A piece of rubber on the DS Spring between the top of the spring and car IIRC. Nothing on the other side. I suspect this was to get the car sitting right. If your fitting adjustable platforms I suspect you don't need it. I didn't bother putting it back on mine after fitting adjustable Avo's.

i had two on the drivers side on my old 280 coupe i believe this was fitted at the factory as it was very low mileage and never had any work on the rear going by the full service history
