Afternoon subjects of the kingdom of Wedginium.

Is it possible to manouvre the driver's side manifold out the top or does it have to be from below?

Secondly, can the engine and gearbox come out the bottom? That is, if the car is on a two post lift, unbolt the various bits, lift up car off and away from the engine and gearbox.

No I want to get the engine and gearbox out. Chassis and body stay together.

If the connections - hoses, cables, shafts, mounts etc.... are all disconnected will the chassis and body lift up leaving the engine and gearbox behind or do they only come out the top?

Never been able to get the OS manifold out the top on mine. Always had to take the starter AND the engine mount off (pain lol)

Alas - the manifold drops out from under the engine out from top.

Later tubular 4-2-1 manifolds.

Thanks people. Looks like more aggression on the starter.

I have got the offside manifold off without removing the starter but the last time for some reason had to remove the engine mount from the engine.

The engine definitely must come out upwards with respect to the chassis.

Manifolds have to come out under the engine. Removal of the engine mounts from the block often helps.

The engine and box come out of the top. Bonnet removal is needed.

Engine mount off but the manifold doesn't clear the starter.

Starter bolts (allen head socket) are stuck fast. Short of induction heat any other tips? They aren't reverse thread are they?

My started is help on with allen key bolts too, i find a long extention with an 8mm socket with a length of 8mm allen key pushed in, you can apply a build up of pressure and hold it there untill it brakes, thats what i had to do the first time i took mine off.

I rounded the inside hex on one of mine and then had to drill a hole through the side to use a bar through it.

The critical one to crack is the top one first. Try heat from a blow lamp. Use a socket set hex driver. Once you crack it, do it up again half tight and do the bottom one.

Alternatively if you undo both mounts and jack up the engine under the sump about 5-6" (use a spreader under the sump e.g. a metal plate or thick plywood) then there will be enough room.

Both allen head sockets were seized on mine too. On one I ended-up welding an allen key into the socket to be able to get enough force on to it.

Starter out. Manifold off. ACT manifold offered up and it fits fine. They'll both be off to Performance 1 Coatings for ceramic coating.
