My oil pressure gauge shows just below 50 psi on tickover and rises with revs until it hits 100psi at 5000 rpm. I think the PRV may be stuck and I would like to check it, but do I need to drain the oil before I can remove it or is the oil kept in somehow even without the valve? TIA

I drained mine down on the several occasions I had to remove the pump cover to sort the high oil pressure issues. Not sure if you actually need to drain the sump but you defiantly need to drain the remote filter assembly and hoses.

There's a post on here and the FB page about my problems with high oil pressure. Might be worth a look if you can find it. I'd start by fitting a mechanical gauge to prove the pressure before you start draining and removing anything. The pump cover bolts round off very easily.

Best of luck.

I bought a new relief valve and then just swapped it out without draining anything. There were a few slow drips of oil while I did it but nothing much. Once the car is up in the air its a 2 minute job to swap the relief valve.

Not sure why my post has repeated its self?

That's worth knowing Keith.

I got one of John Eales tadpoles to replace my PRD but according to John/Richard Eales the pump cover needs machining to except the new PRD correctly. Mines been great since fitting.

Had the same issue. Mine was the sender. Took it off and it sounded like something was loose inside, swapped it for a new one. Problem solved

You can take the valve out, you'll only loose a very small amount of oil max. Then using some circlip pliers with a long nose, you should be able to pull the valve out (it my just plop out with gravity) check it's super smooth with no corrosion.

Draining these is easy and also this is a good tip - do this when doing an oil change so you get all the old muck out.

Use a rubber or plastic tube that push-fits the holes in the remote housing. Blow down one while covering the other with a rag (and press down or the oil comes up and makes a mess).

Then do the other one, and repeat each one. This gets another few cc of oil out, more if you have an oil cooler.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try a mechanical gauge first, that should give me an idea of whether it is the PRV or the sender.
