Wife is getting pissed off, my 280i just stinks of petrol in enclosed space, i recently had passenger side tank repaired, I cannot see any leaks etc. Help, otherwise It might have to go!

I have a similar issue (not a TVR, but Chim engined).

I suspect the flexi hose into the tank is allowing some fuel to escape into the boot when filling. I've removed the boot carpet, to see if the smell goes away. After that, I'll be re0lacing the flexi hose and clips.

Check the seams on the tank. I had a similar issue and one of the seams had split.

From my 82 DHC, experiences -

I found that part of the return hose from the fuel head had corroded near the fuel tank, and had gone 'flaky/cracked' and was leaking.
I found a slow leak from the fuel sender unit (new gasket required).

It ALWAYS smells when filled up, and I couldn't find any more leaks, but I suspect somewhere in the pipes between the tanks there is probably a small leak /split...

I think modern unleaded is hard on old pipework.....

Based on my experience, if you haven't already done so, replace your old fuel lines as soon as practical.
You'll probably be quite surprised (or scared!) at the state they are in.

If it's a really strong smell in the car then I would also check the filler neck. This runs inside the cabin behind the side trim. It also has a breather hose that goes through the boot and out the floor of the boot. Cheers Steve
