400 SE Bouncing Fuel Gauge.

When fuel tanks are Full the Gauge is OK. After about 100 miles it starts Bouncing up and down. Park it up switch it off Start it up again Gauge shows c orrect Level .Pull away again Starts Bouncing .Fill up to the top with Fuel OK for about the next 100 MILES. THEN starts bouncing again..Sure its not a major problem But its Bloody Annoying .Any body had the same Problem. CHEERS .

Starts Bouncing again. Sure its not a major Problem But its BLOODY anoying. Any body have or had same Problem.

It sounds to me like you've got a good set up there. I've had five wedges so far and each one has been worst than what you're describing. That sounds about right for a wedge. If you want something that indicates more accurately, may I recommend a Porsche.

Yep, sounds about right. My 390SE is exactly the same. Tanks full all good. Tanks half empty then not a clue what the level is as the guage bounces all over the show.

I think they all do that, can have over 1/4 tank and then go around a bend and it's on the wrong side of empty.
Swirl pot etc. holds almost 2 gallon before the gauge moves so no need to panic !

Cheers Elvis Owned this car for 17 YEARS. Never had a minor problem like this . Gauge has been ok all these years. Thanks for the answer .Porsche Yes but no. If Yes would have to be a 911 3.3 Turbo. 1985 ISH. But even that cannot beat the sound etc of a V8.

The fuel gage on my 400SE seems to be remarkable accurate. It does bounce a little with less than half full when taking a corner enthusiastically, but if you go straight on, it seems to give accurate reading. I usually fill her up when 1/4th left, at which she takes similar amounts of fuel. I do have to say, that this is my first TVR and only TVR were I do not write down the mileage for fuel and fully rely on the gauge. Rather boring isn't it?

Just winding you up. Let's just say most Wedge gauges are not that accurate. Maybe you've been lucky over all these years and had one more accurate than most. I know what you mean about the 3.3T, but like you say, nothing sounds quite like a V8 Wedge. It's addictive.

Is it the gauge or more likely the sender in the tank? Gauge is just doing what it's told.

Agreed it sounds like the sender is going bad, my 400SX (SE internals) works well.

As mentioned above if you corner hard right when 1/4 full it goes down, and vice-versa cornering hard left.
