280I door drop

The passenger side door has dropped. Taking the door skin off I can see that the horizontal brace inside the door has come off the top of the hinge. The hinge slips inside that brace. Does anyone know how long the piece is that slips inside? I was thinking of lifting the door and drilling and pinning it back together. I can weld it if the door will slip past it enough to get at it. Any suggestions?
