I doubt if the descriptions accurate and the price is a bit off but found this for sale -[http://carpoint.ninemsn.com.au/DesktopDefault.aspx?UsedCarID=750296&TabID=3328&Alias=carpointau]
Well spotted! I like the fact that it's a "Tasman"! Well the handling is a little "devilish" with all that power on tap!!!
Yes it seems I'm quids in (even allowing for the exchange rate), I sent the chappie a message to confirm the mileage and introduce meself.
I took the 400SX down to Brands the other week (Alfa, Radical and Jedi racing) and my son asked for the top up on the way back. I replied "are you mad???" as I was looking forward to filling the Dartford Tunnel up with hydrocarbons and noise.
And did it fill! Seems about 3 times louder than the old 350i.

That's why wedge owners down under must qualify as either the most loyal or the most stupid !
Say it was for sale at 12K in the UK and someone wanted to import it, add 2K purchasing and shipping, 1K customs and quarantine, 2K import duty, 1.5K GST and 1.5K inspection and registration.
Suddenly its cost 20K
- believe me , I've been there. As you can normally expect to drop at least 10% on a cars advertised price here, probably more or have to pay for flights / shipping of the car interstate as part of any sale, and expect to have the car advertised for anything up to 2 yrs to get a sale (very limited market here) and it will probably come down substantially over time, then at the end of the day for all the hassle you would have been very lucky if you break even.
All used cars here are very expensive, I have an 86 535i, value probably 750 quid in the UK, to buy it here would cost the equivalent of over 3K.

Off topic a bit but in the UK a brand new Holden Manaro 5.7 coupe can be had for about £28k and is regarded as a bit of a bargain what do you lot pay for them?
GF.
Actually a new 5.7 is around $60,000 or 23.5K GBP so new is cheaper - as with all cars that are built here.
Difference is in 3 yrs time the UK car will be about 13K yet the one here will still be 16K - must be due to the fact they don't rust in the sun !
Also though a lot of used cars are sold through traders rather than private and are therefore much better presented with a compulsory warranty (which all dealer sold cars must have) and used car buyers have much better consumer protection than in the UK.
The older a car gets the bigger the difference between UK and AUS prices as there is no MOT and as, especially in WA, it is such a hot and dry climate with flat wide straight roads it is possible and financially feasible to keep a car in good mechanical order well into starship Enterprise mileage and it's teens, hence high used car prices.

How much is that in real money? Seems a lot, even if it has covered only 750 miles.
Covered only 750 miles? - I clocked up more miles than that driving my wedge back from point of sale last year.
This 400sx is expensive, but unique - could be timewarp condition.
Worth the money to someone bearing in mind Chunder's info re. the import duty taxes stuff.
