That's interesting Ian.
Could well be.

I quite like the contrasting bumper colour on the car (mine?) illustrated.

Also the go-faster stripes do make the car look less slab-sided. Food for thought.

Though mine does now have the cross-spoke type wheels, the spare is the original plain type.

The car is up for grabs, (as always).
I'm after a bigger badder one, like yours.

Anyway, here she is after the overhaul by RT in January.

Here's mine, after an £800 respray...

Ferrari Rosso Pearl...

Edit: If you get onto The ImageWorks (Nottingham?), they have the templates to laser-cut perfect replicas of the original 'Tasmin' logos and stripes... in any colour you like!

Your car looked smart !
Is it still on the road ?

Stripes would be nice.
First though:

Interior refurb
Wheels refurb/replace
Engine replaced with 24valve Cossie, but keep gearbox
Stronger UJs
Respray - same colour.

There's a few more quid to throw into that bottomless pit

Oh, and a VERY LOUD radio!

It was smart for about a month, until some ar53pipe decided it would look better with a 2 foot scratch across the roof, down to the primer

I sold it on 2001 to a guy called Mark, whose surname I forget, but he drove up from Hants. to collect it.
He planned to sprint it, but I think he decided it was outclassed, and the last I heard it was in bits awaiting conversion to a Tasmin Challenge car.
I have seen a Tas racer that looks suspiciously like the same coloour, but it's hard to tell from photos.

Anyone reading this know where DBB132V (chassis 5036) is these days...?

Note the later style ribbed bumper, with Renault lights. The mirrors were Halfords specials; I created some mountings for them to fit the door triangles - they worked quite well I thought!
Glen the Paint found a good match for the original grey colour that the sills were painted, then he mixed it as a metallic. As luck would have it, Imageworks had an almost identical metallic grey vinyl so the decals were cut from that.

I do think they got the proportions right on the early
FHCs. Also I like the venting on the bonnet.

Look forward to seeing your BBW out of mothballs.

It was painted by a guy who specialises in custom paint-jobs on pedal- and motor-cycles, crash helmets etc.
I used him as he had experience of working with GRP (stress cracks etc.), which a lot of bodyshops don't have.
The car was stripped of doors, bonnet, spoiler, valance, sills, pods etc. so it was about a 97% respray: only the bottom of the engine bay didn't get touched. Various scrapes and dings were repaired, the electric aerial hole was filled etc. etc.
He went as far as repairing cracks and chips in the sills, which you couldn't even see under the car! I've seen plenty of his other work and it's spot-on.
I suppose if you wanted a same-colour repaint with most panels staying on, the cost might be lower.
However I can recommend NOT going for a pearlescent finish as there aren't enough curves on a wedge to make it work properly...

that sounds good, apart from taking bits off the car did you have to do any of the prep work? I think i'll stick to the original cacky gold the car is now but a freshen up is definately in order.

Oh, and a VERY LOUD radio!

Currently installing my "VERY LOUD" radio, the first stage anyway...4off JBL 6x9's (replacing the OEM panasonic pooh in the boot/parcel shelf area, and 2off in the footwells in plenty of MDF) and a 4channel amp behind the passenger seat. the 6x9's only go down to 50hz so ultimatly going to add a sub in the spare wheel well so i can make out (feel)the final bass notes on Saint-Saens Symphony No 3 from Liverpool cathedral......with the bass pipe at 8hz.... when I'm stuck in a queue on UK Gridlock Plc...sorry the queens highway.

Does this make me a chav? even if i abhor "dance" "music"?

Iain

No, I just rolled it into the shop and stripped it. Glen did the work, then we put it back together between us. Ironically, on the way home I got stuck behind a gritting truck...

Bear in mind this was 1999, his rates may have changed...

Sounds like you have my kind of luck re the gritter, thanks for the info its about time my s1 got the face lift it so richly deserves. I might take my 350fhc to BBWF to show you all the worst looking wedge that is still on the road, i think even your man Glen would refuse to prep it

Haha - I just wanna be able to hear the news on the one in the Tiv. I'm having too much fun driving to bother with anything else.

The quality hi-fi goes in my daily driver, which is getting changed soon anyway.(Kenwood in that one)

I do like LOUD though, as even though I'm now a 'grumpy old man', I still like my Black Sabbath, Hendrix, and even TECHNO (!),Mary J Blige, but not dance thanks. Don't mind Basement Jaxx.

Your system sounds pretty impressive !

When I was living in the Far East, in my house I had a disco system (Bose) out of a REAL disco that had closed down.
Now that blew the cobwebs away in the morning.

Well sir i will pick up your ganutlet i fear the esprit in question is a veritable concours car compared with my lowly wedge unless you have resprayed your car with brake fluid since taking the picture for your profile then mine will make it look like a gleaming pristine condition car......the only question is does the esprit go???

Nay, nay and thrice nay, good sire!
Tis true that the photographic representation doth portray the conveyance in a splendorous light, yet verily, talk of sows' ears and silk purses must be upon the air.
Were it not for the apparent glimmer of light upon the coachwork, the product of laborious application of that foul potion known as T-Cut, the Esprit would take on the hue of a battlescarred chariot, caked with the dust of mighty battles on the Queen's highway and besmirched by the disdainful droppings of the vultures that circle, awaiting its imminent demise.
Indeed, I feel that a respray with your magical 'brake fluidde' would be to perform a service similar to alchemy...

Ah bollox, I suppose I'd better go and do some work before the Boss catches me....

pmsl your eloquence astounds but unfortunately they are only empty words put aside my festering excuse of an automobile, so the question is are you bringing the esprit to BBWF? foregoing your 390 that is
