Also no two TVRS are ever quite the same. It appears that it depended upon what they had in as stock.

Hi

The yellow one is an early series with no flared wheel arches or grooved cills...the other is possibly a series 3 with the later style bonnet and flared arches etc..the later bonnet was one of the most effective at removing heat from the engine bay..but then TVR decided not to use it.....???

And skirts/valance mouldings seem to change about twice a week......

Don't worry though, you'll get used to it, and it's not actually quite that bad, but the detail of mouldings did change often by car standards, sometimes by model/engine, and sometimes by year....and then there's a few big changes too.

The V8 models seem to each have unique twiddles by each engine and year as far as I can see ...

The yellow type is the standard one used on early cars from 1980 up to 1984 all my 280i's have it on, the other is later used on the fhc etc.

hehe....and sometimes in the same week...you can see the gradual change in the series design over a period of time... its not a sudden change as it would be in a mass produced car...

Glen,
Where are you located? I’m in Ohio with a 350i. I had a 86 FHC for a while and have sort of been looking again.
Have you joined the club yet? (TVRCCNA).
Good info here on the wedge forum with these guys!

Probably another good thing to keep in mind as you collect info is that the wedge is European built, with a few special bits added to comply with US regulations (in fuel injection system).

For example, the engine is a Cologne 2.8, but it's NOT the same as the US spec ones, which have different heads (and cam I think), so don't fall into that trap !

We are all happy to help as much as we can, so just ask. I agree - there are no dumb questions for this sort of vehicle.

I have messed with British cars all my life. had my first MGB at 16, had an MGA by 19... I've also had a Jag, and a Lotus (Eclat)... I'm pretty good at sorting things out, but this one is going to take some help. Thanks in advance

Hi Glen

Have you got any pics off your car you can post up.

The interesting thing from the pics you posted up, is the yellow car is a series 1 the silver car is a series 2 car and depending on the build date could have had a smooth bumper.

The yellow cars lower valances is correct for a series 1 car and the silver car valance is correct for a series 2 car.
The series 3 car had an all one piece mould front and body and sills etc.

The good news is the frame is perfect... and the body is straight. there is no trans and the motor is not in the car.

So a good opportunity to replace the engine and gearbox with something more sophisticated maybe? A US market lump would give you a better spares supply as well.

That's where my head is at... 302/t5 maybe. or for the ease of it all... the Ford Range had a cologne 2.8 V6 with throttle body injection... and they are everywhere.

Was the later Cologne 2.9 with hydraulic lifters fitted to anything over there? That was a better engine and would be a relatively easy conversion if was available to you.
