It means it’s been subject to an insurance write off.
It’s been deemed uneconomical to repair by an insurance company at some point in its life and been paid out on. Someone has then probably repaired it cheaper than an insurance company could have.
Not necessarily a problem if it’s been fixed right but the car will have a lower value than a straight one and many people won’t touch them.

The categories have also recently been changed to make them easier to understand.

The new ones are
Cat A & B still non repairable.
Cat S for structural damage but repairable
Cat N for non structural damage but repairable.

Indeed those above are the insurance categories but an HPI check also includes the car’s history for previously being written off and repaired, or previously stolen and recovered or having had a colour change etc.

Yeah entirely the wrong tool, touch it with an angle grinder, spanners and a welding tortch... these cars need to be brought back to life.

I've seen many resto's on here well past "Cat C" status, and have successfully revived another wedge.

........unless there are photo's of the damage (which can be surprisingly little) and documented proof, photo's receipts etc, of competent repair.

There are not many of our cars that have not had a bump or a knock.you will find that a small bump will write the car off these days

O go the whole hog and buy it if it feels and looks right!

Service History no need for one of them, V5 no get one later, Service History no! Dodgy looking dealer 20 cars crammed in the space of, well lets say tight, Location dodgy end of town, Town 70 miles away !!!!

Would you, I did Speedo reading what looked a good 42,000, well lets just say the car is still with me 6 years later, well past 80,000 Normal things and one small breakdown this year.

Yes its still current fleet, not one of the V8's
