What noise do UJ's make

when their on their way out? I'm getting a repetitive graunching noise, under power from the near side rear, on left hand bends
Also when the back end is up on stands and I turn the n/s rear wheel there's a creaking sound from that area. Should I order a set?

Could be the wheel bearing...

The answer is they should make no noise..

It's best to start checking for free play in the wheel bearings and UJ's.

Wheel bearings (jacked up) push pull top and bottom of wheel and feel for movement..

UJ's - try to rotate / back & forwards driveshafts using the wheel whilst holding the drive shaft. You are looking for and free play in the UJ's.

I'll try that tonight If it was the wheel bearing would it be a continuous droning type noise ?

yes and so could a worn diff..

Lifted the wheel up and down from underneath and it mooves with a slight clonk, so I think I'll try the wheel bearing first. Thanks for the advice

Check the big nut is tight.. is about 32mm.

Setting if FBT (ffffing bloody tight) or about 250ft lbs torque..

Turned out to be N/S UJ's. Changed them, noise gone
