In the middle of raising the ride height slightly at the back, and suddenly started to wonder about the geometry. Am I right in thinking that merely adding pre-load to the springs won't have any effect on the camber?

you're adding preload to the spring, but for any given set up this will increase the ride height until the limit of the damper extension is reached. I don't like using the term preload as it's only really applicable to cars running short stroke dampers where they use the damper extension limit as a handling tuning aid.

on the wedges the upper link (driveshaft) is slightly shorter than the lower link (lateral radius rod/forward pivot intersection or lower A frame wishbone on later cars) so adding height reduces camber on these cars, though the effect is small.
