Cold Start Valve
Discussion
Hi, looking for some help with the damned cold start valve. I've tested mine (almost to destruction) and nothing squirts out at all. Therefore it is broke.
So I have managed to source a new one via David Manners Group Jag garage using EAC1383* as the part number, and the nice man there says Bosch will get a new one delivered to them by end of week. So if anyone else needs one or think a spare would be good to have get onto them now.
My question is...
My current CSV has + and - signs on the plastic connector body, BUT I am absolutely certain that the (white and red) positive feed goes to the - and then the pos side goes to the Thermotime Switch which earths it. It should be the purple and orange cable which goes to the Thermotime switch according to my diagrams.
So with my O level physics, if this is wired up in reverse will it not close the injector instead of opening it?
I have wired up the old one Plus to Plus and Minus to minus and it doesn't squirt, and also reversed it with same result, although there is the slightest of weeping of PlusGas coming through. I pressurize it with a bicycle pump.
P.S. Thanks for all the good stuff on here. most of my queries are answered somewhere already

If Mr Zigazaga wired the CSV up to the cigarette lighter perhaps you or he can confirm that the neg minus - contact is sent to earth. As I say, mine seems wired backwards.
But I also agree that it is maybe not needed as she started second time today after I finally got everything back together and adjusted the points and timing properly. However as I hope to upgrade the ECU to something like Megasquirt, I may need the CSV then.

Hi Nick
Mine too was wired up as is yours...I swapped the wires around and still nothing..You can test the unit with a 12v feed from a battery...The valve should click as it pulses..I had a friend test a spare that he had which worked and I fitted..and still nothing...my static timing is around 3.5-4, anything higher and it pinks like mad.
The wires from the cigarette lighter plug were black (-) and black and white striped (+)...I connected the black and white one to the (+) of the unit...hey presto.

Thanks for that Mr Zigazaga.
I was just worried that if I connect up a new one wrong way round and fry it, it would be money down the drain
And yes I think I got the timing much closer to tdc than the 6 degrees recommended, although I cant see how I can get a strobe light anywhere near the flywheel to check.
