I feel a bit embarrassed for asking, but I've got a mystery, leaking pipe under the Tasmin. The cause of the leak is easy - the pipe was touching the exhaust. The fluid coming out is oily and black but anything would be as the chassis has been sprayed with black waxoil. It doesn't seem to particularly smell of anything. The pipe runs mainly on the nearside and I've traced it at the back upwards between the seats part of the floor. At the front it crosses to the offside and enters the car at the grommet that also guides the heater, handbrake and bonnet release cables. I can't locate it inside the car, and I can't make out where is disappears to at the back. It's not the petrol pipe(s) . It doesn't go anywhere near the brake M/Cyl so it's not that.
I've run the engine and pressed the brake pedal, but nothing comes out of the melted part although it clearly has been as there's a fair bit of liquid on the chassis and exhaust. The pipe is about 1cm thick and woven steel inside the hard plastic casing.
All thoughts gratefully accepted!

Hi

The only thing I can think of is if it's an auto it could be the autobox oil cooler pipe.

Hi,
Thanks, I've just double checked and I can see where the pipes run from the autobox to the cooler, so that's not it....

Elaborate drain pipe? Remote vent for the diff?

Does it look original or has it been added by someone?

Looks original, but if it was a breather for the diff, i can't see why it would go into the car on the bulkhead. Speaking of which, I'm going to have another try to see where it's going when entering the car at the front.

I know what you mean, it was the oil leaking out that had me utterly baffled. It must have been ATF working its way up the cable.
