It started with a broken fanbelt, and finished up with oil and filter change, new 'correct' rotor arm with rev-limiter, repaired alternator bracket, different pulley wheel fitted to the alternator, and of course the broken thermostat housing, plus an extra set of wheels and tyres.

The wheels won't fit (just put them on classifieds) because of the larger vented discs and calipers that I didn't realise were on the car.

The thermostat housing is still leaking, despite all my aralditing and gasket sealant.

The car appears to have found about an extra 20 horses,
and now goes like stink !

Rotor arm ?

I now have what feels like flu, and I'm short one thermostat housing, which Ford no longer supply.
I'll try some radseal, otherwise have to take the thing to bits again - and of course there were some of these parts for sale on ebay about 10 days ago.

Graham: give Tickover a call (in Essex). They specialise in Fords of that era, bound to have a 'stat housing of the right type.

Come on Graham, it's not that bad. You found 20 ponies...!!! but were you down 20 or have you added new ones???

And if it's any consolation, I did the busted stat housing (unnecessary and changed 3-4 times before it stopped leaking), a new water pump (unneeded), and eventually a recored radiator (not really needed) with screw-in otter switch (definitely needed, old gasket fell in the core) all because the temperature sender (which had tested OK) was bad.

Thanks for the kind words Grady

I'm definately becoming a grumpy old man.

The horses were distinctly lacking before, and I remember Wedg1e commenting on how weak the spark looked, when at his place a few weeks ago.

It also starts better now.

Hi Graham,

I had the exact same problem on my 280 with the stat. housing. I put a new housing on which helped a bit, but you need to replace the bottom hose too - and the only one I found that will fit was a Halfrauds universal one. Of course, the leak just moved somewhere else on my old 280, to the top radiator hose infact. Of course after fixing that the water pump started to leak!

Sorry the wheels don;t fit, that is a shame.
