Here's the graph from Saturday's session at the Surrey Rolling Road - corrected flywheel figures. The first run which gave 304 BHP max. was deemed inaccurate because, if I understood Charlie correctly, his air temp. sensor placed alongside the air filter in the engine bay was picking up too much heat. A re-positioned fan cured that. The sudden drop-off is the rev limiter cutting in, which IIRC, I set at 6100 rpm.

It was Mark and Austec that did all the tuning on mine and as you know it came out good. Well worth it, the injectors were the biggest gain though.

Harry: 234.6 @ c. 5300rpm, which tallies quite well with the last 2 sessions at my usual rolling road of 244 and 241. But as most people say, its not really the peak BHP figure that counts, but how high & wide the torque spread is.

Good figures Paul - I imagine translates into a pretty quick car !
I have fuelling issues also - AFM adjustment can only provide correct full throttle or correct low rpm / cruise fuelling. After looking at various aftermarket systems - and I know Paul has an improved set up - it seems the Megasquirt ECU is a good cost effective solution.
Can be used with a distributorless ignition system to provide full ignition control as well together with outputs for idle air control via a stepper motor or fast idle solenoid and cooling fan control. Also provides datalogging functions and if you weld in a fitting for a wideband oxygen sensor gives closed loop fuelling control.
Got to be worth it at 170 quid for an ECU with a base RV8 set up and you can even get an adaptor so it plugs into the original ECU multi connector using existing relays and sensors. Uses a MAP sensor and TPS for enrichment values which means ditch the AFM altogether.
Ok so you may need a RR session to get the best set up but download the free software and use the oxygen sensor and it should be possible to get a good set up yourself.
Got to be a viable option instead of the MA and RR route which isn't possible down under anyway.
Am taking this route myself over the next few months so would be interested to here from anyone with experience of Megasquirt and I will let everyone iknow how it goes.

Blow own trumpet mode on: I came joint 5th. out of 39 cars in the acceleration test at Zolder last year, in the over 4 litre class, so quite happy, although you always want more!

Sounds incredibly cheap - thats just to control fuelling? Presumably you'd have to add the cost of air temp. and MAP sensors?
It's also the megasquirt system I'm looking into, have one made up and ready to go but not had time or patience recently
My main issue is doing the wiring again to the sensors, as I've not seen an adaptor that you can use for Rover V8 - tell us more or a source.
The rest seems fairly simple, all you need is to weld a wide band O2 sensor into the exhaust and then you in theory have a fully mappable fuel ecu.
Next step would then to be sort out the spark side, using megaspark or some such.

The MAP sensor is mounted in the ECU with a barbed hose connector on the casing - there are software maps available for all common temp sensor / resistance ranges so you don't need to change any.
Price is through a chap I have been put into contact with in the UK and is for the ECU with a basic get you going set up. The ECU is capable of controlling ignition but you would need the EDIS-8 controller and coil packs (available on ebay for 25 quid) and the crank trigger wheel and sensor (again 20 odd).
All software is free and downloadable from the net - any search on Megasquirt should yeild results.

By getting a DB37 male connector and then whatever female connector is required to fit the existing ECU jack as long as you can identify which pin is what connection you can wire up an adaptor.
I will ask the contact I have whether he minds me forwarding his details - he is in the process of making his first Lucas ECU adaptor so it's early days.
The O2 sensor is just an option for closed loop fuelling control - not a neccessity as long as you are prepared to manually set VE values.

Surely the way to go would be a closed loop system as then you can adjust real time on the fly to get the optimum and not need a RR all the time ?
Exactly - in fact you shouldn't ever need to adjust as the ECU will always try to keep whatever air / fuel ratios you have set up for the given rev bands.
Obviously an initial RR setup would perhaps be best but they can only tune for max power or torque, you can adjust fuelling and timing on the fly for driveability and response etc to your hearts content.
To be honest and without wishing to offend certain people (who have the right to reply and may wish to contribute or even put me straight as I am not an expert) why anyone would consider remapping the Lucas ECU is beyond me.
Specialist's time plus a RR must be 400 minimum - only to go back and spend the same again next time you change / upgrade something else.
Motec / Haltech system big improvement but 1000 minimum.
Megasquirt 170 - 300 depending on whether ignition and /or O2 feedback plus possibly some RR time - no contest really.
