Hi, one of my doors is locked shut and the lock will not release. It doesn't matter whether I try to unlock it with the key or inside button - it's stuck fast! Any ideas?? Thanks

Sounds like the rod has come out of the clip or the clip is toast..drop the window down and see if you can see the rod..a coat hanger might come in useful although I havent done this...good luck...

If the door won't open you won't be getting the door card off.

My advice is to take off the door card of the other side and look inside the rectangular holes near the lock (pull off the tape and foam).

Then as Zig says try some stout wire (iron wire for fences is good) and practice how to unlock the door while you can see what you are doing. Then transfer your skills to the locked door - they are a mirror image of each other.

I've had the issue where I wasn't able to unlock the door with the key. I found out that if I put a little outward pressure on the lock barrel with a thin blade of a knife the key would turn and the lock would open. I haven't had the issue with the inside rod not lifting.

I've been looking for new door handles to eliminate the issue. Not ready to plop down loads of cash for the TVR-Parts units.

Thanks for your comments guys. I now have a door that opens again! Yey!

Not really sure what I did though. I removed the trim from the other door to compare, and then pulled back as much trim as I could from the locked door so I could see and access as much as possible of the mechanism.

I decided to apply some leverage with a screwdriver to a particular flange on the lock mechanism. There was a bang and it released itself. Don't think I broke anything. Of course it still won't lock again as it should, but I can live with an unlocked door. Since I've had the car it has never locked until I pushed too hard on the button recently and the problem began!

I will have another look to see if anything looks obviously out of place but the immediate problem is solved - phew!

Thank you again for your comments. At least I can now roar back to the State Inspection workshop for its annual NY inspection.

Happy days..The rod may of become bent...its a fairly easy fix once you remove the door card...

Also those little plastic clips become brittle and snap - the ones holding the wires together.

They are cheap enough except P+P usually adds a fiver. Grrrr....

update - just spotted these on ChinEsebay

might do the trick. Free postage!

You can use slightly larger ones and use a piece of 5mm washer hose over the rod pre-insertion...smile...I think they were a ford fitment...like Capri...Sierra etc...

Yeah the originals would be Ford - looking at sizes in other adverts probably 5/32" so 4mm rod.

These seem to be for 5mm rod looking at the description, so some heatshrink sleeving to pack out the rod and job's a good'un!

I'll get some ordered as mine will likely need redoing one day.
