Trouble getting it up

With the new 400SX erecting the hood is quite irritating - if the windows are up at all they interfere with the sides of the hood - you have to wind them down first.

This adds 10 to 20 seconds to my otherwise snappy hood technique. The 350i doesn't seem to have this problem - I can put up the hood with the passenger window right up.

Is this a foible of the later cars - can the fit be adjusted?

I tend to open the doors as there is a flap to aid in water proofing that moves with the hood. When the door is closed, it doesn't seal up proper.

Here is one I made earlier. You can see that the hood won't come up with the window up so the same as yours. I think it makes for a better seal. But the flap moves with the hood on mine and needs to sit behind the door. Two reasons why I open the door

If you don't open the door or drop the window on the
390/400 series cars - then you can easily break the side window.

I would guess that they would be hard to find too..

No they don't "all do that" as on my '86 350i I have no bother - the hood goes straight up with the windows up. I'm sure it was the same on the previous one (also an '86 350i).

This is especially useful when there is a sudden shower and you just pull up the rear while driving.

I shall add this feature to my "For Sale" advert when I stick it in!

Doors open for me too.

If you can do it with the doors shut and then wind the windows up (without them taking ages or sticking) then you must have old/flat seals or super powerful window motors.

(I have new seals on mine. )

Bob - have you tried silicone grease? The same sort for curtain rails etc. It'll help them slip up and down much more easily...
