Cheap Heater !

I remember one of the old boys who has retired telling me this.
Eons ago.
Truck came with no heater as standard. It also had a flap in the front to let air in in the summer which had siezed open. Winter drive from Scotland back to Wales, no M ways etc. So, gas bottle strapped to the passenger seat, no seat belts in them days so it was roped in, burner on the floor blazing away merrily. Every so often the draught from the stuck vent would blow out the gas flame. So he had a flint and striker ( the combined one like a torch lighter) to re ignite the burner when it blew out............

I used to have a Moggy thou with no heater, and half inch gaps round the doors.
Used to go all over the North East in it, and sometimes arrived home with a snowdrift down my right arm.
Whatever happened to the 'adventure' of motoring?
The heater in the wedge doesn't appear to work, but I've never really given it a thought. Too busy enjoying the drive.

Yep, could make room in the wedge for one of those heaters.
Brought back memories of my first car,
This is a list of the quality as it left the factory specification:-
1) no heater
2) one very small w/wiper drivers side only, powered by manifold vacuum (didn't work when driving up hills)
3) no water pump
4) no oil filter
6) no air filter
7) no hrw of course
8) plywood floors
9) non-independent front suspension
10) rod operated brakes, no servo
11) no syncro on 1st gear
I could go on!
('57 Ford Pop) if you could drive one of them, then you could drive anything
