My 280 seems to be sitting very high at the front, I reckon there is a gap of about 4" between the tyre and the arch, is this a bit excessive? At the moment it looks like it's about to shoot into the sky!

Yep. Has it had new springs on the front recently? There are some horror stories about wedge springs...
Failing that, make blooody sure the chassis hasn't snapped...
Oh... you sure there's an engine in there?

That's quite high but not unknown. For cars leaving the factory on standard 60 series tyres the gap was 1.5 to 4.0 "

I'll swap you

Mine has about 10mm clearance and looks like a Yank dragster!

Yeah it does actually look like the engine has been removed, well almost. Forgot to mention, the rearend is height adjustable and probably has less than half the clearance. The front shocks have been reconditioned through AVO, so what's the answer? Adjustable units or can I just get lowering springs?

This is my 280i AFTER fitting of new springs and adjustable shocks all round. Also a little higher at the front now, but not excessively so ?
