There was a topic on this some time ago. Lots of figures being tossed about and I don't remember it concluding satisfactory.
It's not in the bible either.
I do mine up to 80 ft/lb
(arrived at this figure after looking in Haynes manuals for 4 previous cars owned and they varied between 66 and 89 ft/lb)

The 40 lb ft figure comes from TVR (350 handbook) which although uses different wheels to the 400/450, are still alloy mounted to the same hubs as the bigger engined cars. Alloy wheels should not be torqued up to the same levels as steel wheels, due to the softer nature of the metal.
