Wedge clutch Slave Cylinder
Discussion
Hi all, The clutch master cal was recently replaced on my 280i (I have been told the 350i and 280i=same same). The master cylinder that was installed was from a tr7, seems "hard" and clutch does not fully disengage so cannot shift into 1st at a standstill. The question is............Is the TR7 clutch master cylinder that was installed the correct part, yes/no?
I'm afraid that it isn't and has changed the mechanical advantage, stroke or ......of the system .
Thanks !!!

Hi Bruce
I also answered on FB..
Here is a diagram of the clutch system on the later 280i, it describes a fault in respect of the gears not engaging or a sticky clutch being that the actuator arm is not being pushed forward enough....so a fault in the system, what part is from the TR7?...Clutch master?...it is possible that there is a significant difference in applied pressures.

If the new master is stiffer that means it will be giving a bigger travel at the slave end for the same push at the master end. The only other variable is the volume of each cylinder - the master should be large enough to "fill" the slave.
One thing you can adjust quite quickly is the push rod on the master - try winding it out a few turns so the pedal is higher and therefore definitely bottoms out when depressed.
Also double-check the slave bolts are tight in case there's any slack there, you will get less push.
