Hi chaps, I got the TVR (1984 UK 280i) back from the mechanic today after he replaced the speedo cable and had the speedo serviced.

I've lost the left hand indicator function and the hazards don't work either. Right hand indicator works fine though. The relay clicks away on a right turn but is silent on the left and hazards. It looks like both sides are operated by the same relay so it can;t be that. Likewise it looks like there's one fuse for both sides. Correct me if I'm wrong here.

Checked the bulbs front and rear visually and they look fine (and are only 3 years old).

So I'm thinking some wiring has been disturbed while they got the speedo out and in again.

Any suggestions before I take it back to the mechanic?

Rears and sides would still work if the front bulb was blown. As would the hazards.

The piss poor factory wiring has been disturbed.

Work from the switch along the 'line'.

I guess the hazzard switch has dirty connections give it a good wiggle up and down and it may cure it unless the indicator switch is faulty

As above

I'll hazard a guess it's the hazard switch playing up but there could be a problem at the steering column wiring

Yes there us also a multi-connector under the steering column which can play up.

Put the faulty indicator on and then start wiggling the wires at various places until it starts working.

I have had similar happen in the past and it turned out to be dirty connections on the hazard switch. If you operate the switch 15 to 20 times it should clean the contacts enough to rectify the problem.
I hope this sorts it.

The thing is, would the Speedo repair man have worked anywhere near the hazard switch if this proves to be the problem
Coincidence may have raised its ugly head here and when/if the OP returns the car to the Speedo repair man................Another bill????

Don’t torture the Hazard switch trying to get it to work!

They’re delicate internally and are the only 2P2T switch in the set, so when you snap the brittle internal bit it’s quite hard to source.

Besides, hazards and indicators are on different circuits, hazards run off battery, indicators through the ignition.

I do recall having this on Delilah and that turned out to be the way it was wired, I think via the horn...lights and ignition switch ...pointless in many ways...smile

Could be the multi plug under the steering column not pushed home firmly or could be the hazard relay with a loose coñection. On my 350i the hazard and indicator relay was pushed up in the wiring just under the speedo, rather than being on the relay board.

Thanks fro all the suggestions. All is well again (at least for this problem). Turns our it was the hazard switch. The indicators ARE wied through the hazard switch (if you disconnect the switch, neither indicator works,

I jiggled the hazard switch on off on off for a bit and the hazards came back. Still no left hand indicator though. Then I gave the switch sockets a squirt of WD40 and left it overnight. Tried it in the morning all all is working fine again.

On to the next issue prior to getting her ready for sale..
