Hi Colin

The radiator was from a classic Range rover classic Non-A/C...just looked for the shrouds but didnt find any...You might be able to retro fit something but I should imagine your front spoiler will need to come off...

My old 350i had the cowling and non-return rubber flap things and my 390 has nothing, just the fan at the back of the radiator. In hot weather I didn't notice any real difference between the two, but both radiators had been recently recored.

Yes so if you already have 2 fans you won't find a cowling for that.

Probably 2 fans is better than 1!

Actually if you have twin fans then what temperature thermostat is in there?

Maybe a lower temp one will help...

Good thinking will have a look.one of my fans is not as strong as the other so may change that.there is a lot of air going around the radiator so I may try the flaps

What fans do you have fitted Colin? I have just changed both of mine as one was much weaker than the other and was drawing a huge current. If they are compatible then you are welcome to have the one good one that I removed.

Hi Colin

The flaps go on the cowling...if you do not have that then there is no point...they open whilst you are moving to create an airflow and close when stationery so the fans are more efficient...I would just update the fans to Kenlowes and check the switching temps of thermostat etc...you could put an inline fan temperature control switch, which turn fans on, ranging anything from 75-85 on....80 on and 90 off is about right for a RV8 3.5, there are a few option there..I would by-pass the otter switch and use something like this...

and have a manual switch just in case...smile

Hope this helps

I was going to use the flaps to direct the air to the radiator. It looks like there is a gap at the side of the rad that let's income air miss the radiator completely.

Hi Colin.
This fan is a Sanden 9.5 inch four blade which was original fitment. Not sure if the mountings would be the same as the Spal. I have attached a picture. If its any good let me know.

Did they fit in or did you need to move the radiator forward

They take up less space than the original so should fit with zero tweaks, will know when I fit them as body off being sprayed. Also they are significantly lighter, over 6lbs lighter in total

I have a question / concern with your picture of the new fan set up you’re using (and if it’s already installed on another car and all is ok then I’m totally wrong).

Fans are required when there is insufficient airflow (forward motion “usually”). When the traffic clears and the airflow returns the fans turn off.
As the car moves faster and the airflow increases beyond what can pass through the fan shrouding (some cars) have rubber flappers/doors that allow flow through the radiator but around fans. My thought would be that from what I see (unless it’s mounted like this on another v8 car) that this may limit airflow at speed. Just a thought.
