Hi

While I was at a show today, I was asked the question what is the hourly rate I am charged for having work done on my Wedge.

Off course as I do the work my self thats 0.

But it got me thinking.

So if you have somebody else doing work on your wedge, what is the hourly amount they charge you?

The answers I got from the other TVR owners today was from £25 to £45 an hour for servicing and major works.

So please let us know what you are charged.

In advance Thanks for your replies.

Using one of the TVR specialists then its ranged from £60 (no VAT), £60+VAT to £75+VAT

I have used a small indy garage and they charge £50 + VAT

I try and do most jobs myself it might take me longer. But I am cheap, just requiring Tea and Biscuits.

I gave up using dealers when our local one (which also does SAABs) did a service for £850, about 10 years ago.

The dealer at Stansted was no cheaper, when asked.

My local garages are also in to £40-£50/hr area, and so I also do it myself, except jobs that require specialised tools (such as bearing pressing).

Besides, even though I have a good job, it still doesn't pay enough to pay for garage work after tax, it's cheaper for me to do it.

Another factor is the use of 2nd hand parts, most garages won't, so that means extra expense.

In the States - if you can find someone that is willing to work on one, around $95 - $100/hr (there is no book (time) rate) and some may be cheaper.

I get charged £45 an hour plus vat at a local independent garage. I have been going to this place with all my cars for over 20 years so have a good relationship and i know i dont always get charged for the time they put in. You need to have trust in anyone working on a TVR or else you will get bigger bills down the line.
