My 400SX has developed a much louder whistle than it used to have, under 1/2 to full throttle opening.

I'm not sure if it is normal, so I'm going to investigate. Is this the sign of an impending problem, or is it normal???

If any SX owners could comment, point out common faults etc...

Hi

The whistle is caused by the whine of the drive belt, so check that your constant loss oil pot, attached to the supercharger by a pipe from the back, is half full of engine oil.

Might be worth checking the inlet piping to make sure there are no leaks, but you would notice a difference in performance.

Finally - have you changed the air filter recently - might just be breathing better!

If you want a chat give me a ring contact me by emeil and I'll give you my number - My SX came out of hibernation today and except for a noisy fuel pump ( any ideas anyone?) and sticky back brakes it's just as fantastic as ever

Yes I'm not sure about the whine - there is an engine-speed related one, but also this new one which is related to road speed.

The road speed one only happens in 3rd, 4th and 5th. I'm thinking gearbox output shaft, maybe.

My supercharger oil is fine, but incidentally mine is recommended to have ATF in it.

Yes - we should be able to acheive stereo at BBWF - maybe slightly out of balance, though...
