Hi, I've got a 350i without power streering. Nice whilst moving but a bit of a pain parking etc. Options? The electric route, what's involved, or source power rack/pump etc. Thoughts please? Cheers J C.

Personally I'd go for the modified Corsa B/C column option rather than having to weld new mounts onto your chassis, sort out a pump etc.

Some links I found sometime ago, I never went any further as I got used to the steering in the end.

Thanks for the replies. Yes the Corsa option seems the favourite. Athough couldn't open the links Pumpkin 123. Thanks anyway. I have to say the steering seemed lighter this morning or was it aqua- planning? Cheers J C.

If you wanted to fit a standard setup a Cortina PS rack will fit without too much modification. The chassis mounting holes need drilling larger and you may have to take a small amount from the large box section. Some say you have to cut the diagonal chassis tube, but as you can see, you don't.

I never finished this installation as I couldn't source a UJ to connect to the rack. The Cortina PS rack was connected to a flexible coupling and never had a UJ, so you can't buy one off the shelf. I ended up putting the manual rack back on the car so I could still drive it. I did eventually have a UJ made but never got round to fitting the PS rack back in the car. I do still plan to complete the installation.

I can't help you with the pump side of things as mine is a 200. I wouldn't have thought it was too difficult though. Cheers Steve

Don't know whether it would work on a Wedge (I see no reason why not) but I had a Suzuki Wagon R system fitted to my Chimaera around 3 years ago. The difference is night and day. Parts fit neatly up under the dash on the column, you'd never know it was there. Variable too, from max assistance at parking speeds, with zero assistance above 30 mph. No hydraulicsa, brackets or leaks. Best of all worlds. Fitted by Lloyd Specialist Developments. Worth every penny.
