New guy here! Proud owner of an '89 350i in gleaming red. Well, it's red now - it was pink when I bought it. And I've given myself tendonitis in my elbow from all the T-Cutting.

Anyway: Does anyone know the part number of / where to get a connecting rod for the Driver's side exterior door handle? This is the thin rod and white plastic receiver inside the door that connects the exterior door handle to the door catch. I've searched the net and forums and can't find anything - might just be from another more common car?

Basically today I took the door trim off to adjust the window limiter to stop the window fouling the targa top (turns out the cable had snapped so we've got some temporary cable tie magic going on) - and the moment I touched that rod, the top snapped, and the door handle went floppy. The rod is completely rusted through. So now that's also temporarily attached to the also-snapped plastic receiver with a cable tie. And the cable tie's double secured with hot glue. I feel as though I should have worked in the TVR factory...

Thank you!

Galvanised wire should have been fitted O.E. then we would only have to put up with the clips snapping....

The tensile strength of coat hangers is not good, BUT for the princely sum of one pound! ...you will get enough (3.66mm O.D.) to replace the 4 minor rods. OK, you end up with a garden planter...Adam has clips (I have some of the OE items that you MAY need but that is only if you get desperate!)

Sad..really, I was in Wickes earlier (with a vernier gauge in my pocket) thinking of door rods!

Replaced mine years ago with some made up of stainless rod. Not stupidly expensive and never have to worry about them rotting out ever again. Cheers Steve
