any ideas where to source or have repaired/reconditioned a "flapper" style air flow meter for a 390 SE. Are 350 meters compatible?

I've been told that the AFM is matched to the ECU so you may be better getting yours repaired (not sure who does this though). The AFM on a 350i is the same though it could be set up slightly different especially if matched to the ECU. They are also the same as an Rover SD1.

As per my reply on the TVRCC thread, Standard 390SE's had the normal Rover AFM, whereas a number of them were upgraded with the larger jaguar AFM unit. If it's a standard one then the 350i/ Rover SD1 vitesse is the same, apart from the internal spring setting which will need adjusting to suit the engines characteristics.

Mark Adams at Tornado systems had a shelf load of them when I was there the other year. he does offer a repair/check service also. I've a spare standard Rover unit that came with my 390SE before I upgraded both ECU and AFM to the jag item but to be honest I want to keep hold of it just in case a future buyer would want to return it to original tune, even though I doubt they will want to drop the power back down also.

I've also a few spare standard 350i AFM's but can't vouch for their condition. They've sat in my garage top room for some time.

You are better off as said getting yours rebuilt/re-calibrated...what makes you suspect it needs to be rebuilt?

Thanks for the responses guys. We fitted a replacement meter and all went well, so pretty sure the meter is at fault.

GMW have these been used on a wedge and do they need the Jag ECU?

It's nothing to do with matching it to the ECU. It's a matter of matching it to the engine, such as level of tune, ported heads, camshaft, injectors etc. The only thing to adjust is the main spring and associated fuel/air mixture, plus fuel pressure. It can be roughly set with a decent exhaust gas analyser but best way is to run it up on a rolling road.
