Any decent motor factor should be able to get them. C. £30 each rings a bell for the last pair I bought. Trouble is that only about 25% of the braking force goes to the rear, and the pads can get seized in the caliper with all the road crud / brake dust. Getting the main calipers off can be a pig of a job - they should be lockwired, and there is very little clearance for a spanner to undo the bolts. Worth overhauling / replacing the calipers while they're off,to save having to take them off again in future.

Easier to drop the frame IMHO.

Yep, £22 at David Manners: www.jagspares.co.uk/Manners/CarSecView.asp?CarSection=BRR&CarModel=XJ6%261&perpage=10
A bugger to do, but if you have access to a ramp you can get to the bolts after using some long nose cutters on the lock wire.
You then need to undo the drive shaft bolts near the discs, not a problem , but then you will need to undo the bottom bolts on the A frame and the bolt holding the rear tie arm so that you can swing the drive shaft out of the way to remove the disc.
Don't forget to count the shims and put back exactly the same number you took out !
Took me about 2 hours on the ramp a couple of weeks ago, but then I went further and replaced some seals on the diff that were leaking and causing the brake problem in the first place. A bit harder to do but any competent mechanic should be able to cope with a large vice and larger biceps

Cheers for the help. disc's in the David Manners link are they for the pair or each (it is a pair I need?) and which calipers will i need?
cheers again.
AFAIcan see it's each. I wouldn't buy new calipers unless you have to (usually if a bit of the casting has fractured) I'd refurbish them:- www.classicbrakes.co.uk/ have a read: www.tvrwedgepages.co.uk/
After some ringing around to seek recommendations from other Wedge owners I decided to go for 'plan C' and have them re-built. The chap I was recommended to speak to was from a company called Classicar Automotive based in Cheshire (www.classicbrakes.co.uk telephone: 01625 860910). The company has been established for over 17 years and specialise in British & European sports car brake systems. Dave the owner explained that after he had finished with the callipers, all I would have back from him that was original was going to be the calliper castings - absolutely everything else gets replaced with new.
The callipers are stripped down to their individual component parts, the main castings are shot blasted back to the metal and then zinc plated. The units are then rebuilt using brand new seals, bolts, liners, bleed nipples etc and new stainless steel pistons are fitted. After inspection, pressure testing and final quality approval the callipers are then returned. Total cost for two came to around £130 including the postage and dreaded. Another benefit of using the original callipers was that as they were the original OEM TVR item they should bolt straight back on again with no adjustment or fuss, which in my mind was a real plus.
When they were returned about a week later they really did look like brand new - see the before and after pictures to see what I mean. The only trouble was it now showed up the rest of the underside of the car! [note to self: must paint chassis ASAP].
JR
Maybe I should be on commission.
