Hi
After the usual searches I'm having no luck finding a 14CU ECU for the wedge (1989 350I).

Mine is intermittantly dodgy and I don't want to get the soldering iron out without a fall back. I posted some angst ridden posts a while back re not touching it before a track day

Anyone got a good spare they wouldn't mind selling?

There's this 4cu unit on ebay, but I think thats for an earlier flapper type AFM.

Try this place

Allcar Electronics 01773836485 Alfreton, Derbyshire

I bought one from them a couple of years ago for the 350 for a reasonable price @ £100 if I remember.

They also hire them out if you are unsure it is the ecu

Cheers

Paul

Hmmm, you're right. I wondered what a 14cu was.

Well thats the one you need then Nigel. I'm not far from Hudds if you want it picked up rather than trusting ParcelFarce.

Mark Adams, took one off our 350 only yesterday, I don't think there was anything wrong with it, we just upgraded, give him a bell.

Thanks for the replies folks
Well spotted...it is a 4CU (for the flapper) that I need. I must have been having one of my brain fades, might have been down to the amount of Malt I had sipped before I posted

I saw the Land rover one on ebay but believe I would need it modded as the TVR ones were tweaked for higher end fueling..That 4000 to 6000 rpm rush we know and love...
I was thinking about the Mark Adams ECU with the tornado chip so interested if it is anygood wedge girl?

Anyone else with feedback on the Mark adams modded ones?

I'd had a couple of beers when I chatted with Mark at the BBWF last year so don't take this as gospel but I think his Tornado ecu system is for the later Hotwire AFM ECU's. He did say he could piggyback a chip onto the old 4cu flapper type AFM ecu though, so it may be worth grabbing the one off fleabay and talking to him.

Thanks tall bloke...I was going by the bible which does mention Marks upgraded ECU's for the flapper type set ups, can't remember if it was the tornado type right enough.
You don't happen to have Marks phone number do you??

Mark Adams will deal in all ECUs for the Rover V8 including modding the Range Rover ones to standard 350i set up to copy what TVR did. If you like and have the money he can do/supply a fair bit more as well. I have his no. at home if you're stuck.

I have to say that in the brief drive home I had last night, it's the Mutt's dangly bits, does exactly what it says on the tin. The fuelling is spot on through the rev range. The engine is very crisp and the throttle response has been sharpened considerably.
Even with a dizzy problem that was causing a bit of spark scatter I still saw about 180bhp at the back wheels which is 30 odd up on the start of the day. The figures just don't tell how much better it is to drive though.
If you are going down this route it is well worth doing as I have just done and fitting a Jag air flow meter and injectors first, all of which are a straight swap, except for the meter mounting bracket.

Hope this helps,

Mick

I'm starting to wonder what 'standard' is with these ECUs. The more I see with varying component values, allegedly from the same application, the more I wonder just who has actually 'modded' what...

Incidentally, I keep hearing rumours that the Rangey ECU is supposed to speed-limit at 115 mph or rev-limit at 5500 rpm. I have been trying an ex-Rangey ECU on my 390, and not only does it seem to pull harder through the midrange, there's no sign of a speed OR rev. limit...

Time for a rolling road test, methinks.

Finally, if all goes according to plan, I may have some bits to sell at BBWF... watch this here space

Thanks Tall bloke got the email

Thanks Mike for the feedback on the uprated ECU... sounds very good and you certainly seem happy with it. Your description is tempting me to go in that direction. If you don't mind you couldn't drop me a mail with what the costs involved were could you?

I'm going to try and pick up the range rover one on ebay looks like it should work OK according to your post wedg1e and have that as a working unit, then try out the upgrade path.....

I've really got no excuses to not try and do it myself as I am an electronic eng. by trade but no decent kit at home and no circuit diagram etc. for the unit I'd be very interested in what you find out Wedg1e......

Took the Wedge for it's first spirited drive since all it's upgrades, which include; bigger brakes, new master cylinder, jag injectors, jag airflow meter and a little bit of Mark Adams magic, what can I say to do it justice?

Drove it just before the new ECU was fitted and the upgrades were noticable but now it's become 'almost' complete, I'm thinking upgrades to the suspension, but don't give Mick any ideas.

It's gone from being a Big Bad Wedge to an awesome machine, she's responive from 0 through to 1*0, crisp and clear, pulls like a train.

On the way home it seemed only fair to swap back to the MX5 and let French TVR have the wheel, watching and hearing it pull away is poetry in motion, even the Bib thought we were a 'bit quick through there'

The trouble is the MX5 now seems totally gutless time to bring another TVR into the stable?

I thought that the big airflow meter/ fat injectors etc. weren't normally a worthwhile upgrade on a 3.5?
Is there something Mick isn't telling us... ?
