350i header tank
Discussion
I installed a header tank from a land rover discovery, and after using it for a year i found it successful. What prompted me to post this, i ended up driving on a 40 degree day (Australia) and the old Wedge handled better that the driver. posed some pictures.

Did all the pipes line up.colin
the main pipe which is about 3/8" from the radiator went to the bottom of the tank.the two 5/16 pipes from the goose neck and the engine I put in a T piece and fed them into the 5/16 fitting on the tank.
deleted the overflow tank because the rover tank has a much large capacity than the old Ford Capri tank.
Water expansion not a problem.
Im sure that there are many ways and tanks that can be adapted. im sharing this version because i know it works.
Cheers Garren

Doesn't the header tank need a pressure relief cap, from memory I have the pressure relief cap on the header tank and blanking cap on the swan neck.
The cap on the rover tank is a pressure relief type . Bmw and other brands share the same capEdited by Legarocorsa on Wednesday 12th February 12:15
Nice fit but I would like to see a piped overflow as per the original - the Merc header has one - rather than just releasing water over the enginebay - although I get you don't 'need' to fill the thing up to the top to maintain capacity.
Nice to have bottom feed for the pipes though. Should aid 'auto-burping' of the system. If you undo the TVR arrangement and revert to 'SD1' arrangement you don't need to 'T' the pipes.
Not being negative. Good find of what is a viable replacement for an obsolete (and fragile) part. Off to ebay ...

AAgh cool, have to admit, your tank fits better than the original. Don't know if they're all the same but on mine all the inputs/outputs point straight at something, so had to fit moulded right angles on some which goes against my principles of having as few joints as possible.... well unless I'm smoking them. Good job, gives everyone another option.Edited by Legarocorsa on Wednesday 12th February 12:15
Nice to see you still have the warning label about using "snowdrift" brand antifreeze! I wonder how many of us have heeded that?
Looks like a disco 300 TDI tank, which go for about £13 on the flea over here.
Neat job - yeah the need for an overflow pipe is purely down to head gasket leakage, I've discovered over the years. With good head gaskets, you don't need it.

Hi Adam, interesting you should mention Head Gaskets. I changed mine with composite ones before i fitted the tank.Looks like a disco 300 TDI tank, which go for about £13 on the flea over here.

this tank was aslo fitted to the V8 discos here in oz, so figured if they work on the land-rover should work on the TVR and they are cheap.
