Rear suspension failure - Help please..!
Discussion
Oh dear...
The lower suspension link snapped on the O/S rear suspension of my 280 Tasmin forcing the wheel to tuck up inside the wheel arch.
Does anyone know if the link (a sort of rod between the hub carrier and the dif mounting)is a TVR or Jag part and if there are any available out there. It is the trailing arm sort. (I am not sure if it is the separate trailing arm or the all in one version as the book says it changed in April '83 and guess when my car was registered...
April '83 of course. I can't look at the moment either since the AA dropped the car off at a garage.)
Does anyone know what sort of other damage may have been caused by the failure? The car looks very dramatic (like one of those funny pictures with the wheels all sticking out at weird camber angles)?
Any advice gratefully received.
In an odd way, I think I was lucky because it broke in a small 30mph village between 2 very steep and twisty National Speed Limit country roads. I had both my daughters in the car. Hate to think what could have happened!

If you weren't doing any speed it may not have broken anything else, but check the tyre for rubbing against the inside of the wheelarch, and check the swivel pin at the front of the trailing arm.
Please keep the bits taken off and have a look at them, I'd be interested to find out what caused it (e.g. was it corrosion from the inside.) We might be heading for a parts shortage if these start going more often.
Lastly, if you can't get one you can take the other side off and use that to set up a jig to make a new one, they are identical.

Thanks for the replies.
I too am concerned why it snapped. The outside of the bar looks rust free and the break itself seems to be bright metal (not corroded). I can't tell much with it still on the car but I will let you know if anything turns up.
At the moment my only guess is perhaps someone has tried using it to jack the car up instead of a chassis rail or it has suffered some sort of impact at sometime. Any other ideas are welcome.
It is worrying because then you wonder if it will happen again and what the other side is like.
