SEAC courtesy light issue?
Discussion
Just wondering if anyone has heard of this one before? I've been having issues with the courtesy lights on the Wedge. To start with I thought the door switch on the passenger side was playing up. When I come to close the door the interior lights go off as the door is almost closed, and then they come back on again. Three switches later and I realise it is not a switch issue but the lights are coming on when the door catch touches the striker plate. I've pulled the trim off to expose the back of the striker plate and the plate is securely earthed back to the chassis. If I put a multimeter between door lock and striker plate I am getting around 6 volts across them??
Having recently had the entire dashboard off, I did double check the courtesy light wiring loom and it was all good and wired correctly to the wiring diagram. I tested the switches and lights before refitting the dashboard, so I know that there is no cable connection from the loom to the passenger door. There was a three pin multi-plug that actually attached to a matching multi-plug that was part of the speedo/tacho wiring.
Now I have heard from the original owner and when he ordered the car one of the upgrades he requested and was included was a 15 second delay timer on the courtesy lights, so when he got into the car the lights stayed on for that 15 seconds. Having had the dash completely out there is no sign of any odd timers knocking about and the interior lights do not go off after a delay.
So to summarise, all courtesy lights, two under the dash, two behind the seat and one on the roof hoop all work either manually or via the door switches. If left in auto all also come on when the passenger door lock makes contact with the striker plate. I'm going to remove the door card tonight to see if there's anything obvious but does anyone have any ideas??
My confusion is if there's a trapped wire in the door, that's touching the door internals, and then earthing through the striker plate, this wouldn't affect the interior lights and would likely blow a fuse. I'm therefore thinking it is related to the fancy 15 second delay. Thanks.

Passenger door switch incorrectly wired, cable from interior light or interior light delay unit seems to be wired to door lock, the original door switch earth could be missing or broken????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Does the passenger door switch turn all the interior lights on when opening the door?

Hi Adrian, thanks for the response but the issue is definitely something to do with a connection in the door, and not the switch making poor contact. I've completely removed the switch as a test and again as soon as the door latch kisses the striker plate the lights go on. Also I'm getting the 6 volt across them? As "Penelope" says, it might be something to do with the lock. As part of the original install the doors are also fitted with fancy door solenoids, which presumably were operated by the original alarm unit. They no longer work, but there's a shed load of wires in the door around the solenoid, so it may well be tied into that lot. The joys of old auto wiring......
Problem solved. Took the door card off and set into the door, next to the door latch is some sort of magnetic pickup switch. The proximity of the latch plate triggers it. Chased the two wires back into the car and close to the ECU/relay board there is a 2 pin multi-plug. Disconnected it and all is good. Thanks for the responses.
