Leaky injectors and injector cleaner (redex or similar)
Discussion
Evening all
(I vaguely remember that being a saying- errr my dad said)
I have on my 350i at least one, probably two, possibly three leaky injectors.
Usual symptoms- starts fine from cold but runs lumpy with a smell of raw fuel so I increase the revs and after s few seconds it clears and runs fine. If I switch off the engine the gauge on my fuel pressure release valve shows around 20psi - if I come back after an hour or so it is reading zero.
The cause is probably due to stagnant fuel gumming up the injectors down to very little use interspersed with long periods of being laid up ( I the last time it had a decent run was last September ish)
Getting to the point, before I strip out the injectors and get them cleaned and tested is it worth trying an injector cleaner such as Redex, wynnes or Forte?
I’m somewhat sceptical that these work but I wondered if anyone uses or has tried them if so with what result ???

Hi Ron, I've used the Redex injection cleaner on my Wedges previously. To be honest I'm not sure if it made a difference as all injectors held pressure for a while anyway. Typically though all three of mine do (or did for the 350i) drop fuel rail pressure slowly after an hour or two so, but pressure loss is not dramatic.
One problem I did have with the 350i was to do with the 2 year old FSE fuel pressure regulator playing up. It started giving inaccurate pressure results and started squealing. I stripped it down and found a pinkish coating on the inside of the regulator, which looked suspiciously the same as the injector cleaner colour. I've therefore not used any since.
Cheers.
