Hi all.

Bit of assistance please on the 400se

So the old boy failed the test. Brake lights not working. Both sides.

I have check the bulbs , fuses and alls ok that end. So I am assuming its the switch.
Where is this located and is it a simple job ?

And secondly the reversing lights go on when it goes into reverse and then they go off once the car moves.
This is the switch I assume also, so how much of a pain is this one to get at. ?

I have tried to get the middle arm rest / consol off but this looks like its been bodged fitted before my time.

Any help with any of these greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Neil

Brake switch is located just above the brake pedal. TVR Parts sell them but they are a cheap standard unit. Bit fiddly getting at but only a 10 minute job to change. It might just be a wire connection to the switch. As far as I'm aware reversing lights or lack of aren't an MOT failure. switch is on top of gearbox and just about accessible from underneath. Quite often its the spade connections on the wires that need cleaning.

You took a car for MOT without even checking the most basic items, lights, washers, wipers.. eek

Switch may just want a bit of adjusting, if not ........ clicky

MOT guy probably not reading the rules. Reverse light are part of the test but not if the car is registered before 2009.

One of my old range rovers failed the test once because the vacuum hose to the brake servo was leaking. It was actually the vacuum hose to the cruise control, but he was close.
