I was wondering.
Maybe between us we could put together a pool of parts for all and every one of us that might need something from time to time and which might not be available from normal commercial sources, or ebay for that matter.
I do not seek to undermine people in the business of sourcing and selling parts for specialist cars like Wedges, but they might not have them at that moment or cannot get them. Similarly there might be some of us that can get things made or sourced by other means. Some of us may be holding parts that we have no particular use for just now and would be willing for them to go to someone who needs them.
This would be at the appropriate cost of course for those parts in question.
One way of doing this would be to physically start off a collection of parts which would be held by a Parts Custodian (a kind volunteer!) or Stores/Parts manager, and we could all put in a bit of money to start the stock of parts off and buy others that appear on ebay et al from time to time, and even other advertisements.
Alternatively we could have a parts exchange where we all post those parts we do not need at present on this site; making them available to all us Wedgers.
It could be a hybrid of the two perhaps.
I haven't forgotten that there is a classified section to this great site provided by Mike Bressington. I just felt that putting all our heads together and co-ordinating the availability of parts for our beloved Wedges might just benefit us all.
Whaddya think Wedgers?

I have every conceivable spare for the injection system, some of them several times over...
.. and a spare LT77...
... more pod motors than Lucas ever made...
...and a spare V8 complete...
Alas my 2100 cubic foot garage is bursting at the seams....
Edited because I forgot about the V8-shaped toe-stubber just inside the door, until I walked into it again...

I'm sorry if I'm treading on anyone's toes here.
I respect that the TVR Car Parts people are available to supply is with whatever parts we want that they have available. It has only clicked with me that this is now all set up. It is also good that they are coming along to the BBWF and I'm sure they will do a great job in helping us all out.
However, I think there is some value in putting together a parts pool with a spares co-ordinator alongside any and all commercial parts manufactureres and suppliers. Certain items may not be available from commercial operators whoever thay may be, but can be sourced through other means.
And what is an LT77?

I'm 100% in favour of this. The spares companies do a great job of supplying new parts, and where these are still available they meet our needs. ACT exhausts are a fine example, to name but one. The area where we all need help are the obsolete parts or bits which are too expensive to buy new. The window motors or gearboxes are a couple of cases in point.
Many of us have various items scattered about (Wedg1e more than most, it seems) and would be prepared to sell them to the needy. Just think of the brownie Points you'd get from your other half if you sold a few bits from the garage.
I'd be happy to coordinate a parts stock list if there's support for the concept. It doesn't need to be too complex to get the idea working. If everyone with bits they're happy to sell, provides details of the part along with their PH Handle, anyone who wants a part from the list can contact the owner via the PH site. Whether the list includes prices or not is up to the seller. The list can be updated quarterly (for example) and e-mailed to anyone who wants a copy. Alternatively, MikeB might be happy to host it on his web site.
If you want to do a pilot study, let me have a list of your bits (Description; condition; model fitted; price (if applicable)), and I'll pull together a combined list in time for the BBWF.
In time, it may also be worth adding a 'wanted' section for parts than could be made if there was enough interest, so that companies can see where there is a market developing (SS ash trays, re-veneered dashes, kick plates etc etc).

I agree, a parts register.
Also, whether loaners would be acceptable, and a target price for each part, and area of the country (postcode?)
Loaners of EFI components are particularly useful as you don't know which bit you need until you swap a good part in for the duff one.
I have quite a few bits in me barn that I would like to submit.
Go for it!

Adam, a 'loaners' scheme is really appealing, and could easily be incorporated.
Nigel, Even if fifty percent of those on this site advertised only two or three items, we would have a significant source of parts to keep these wonderfull motors on the road.
Send me your lists and I'll get it up and running.

So chaps, how is this going to take form?
Is there any value in a central store of spares, if someone has the shed or barn to keep them in? Should we all contribute a little to buy up some spares for a central stock? Will it be a register of spares held on this site - with Mike Bressington's permission of course. Should we have a parts listing with prices? Can we source people to make things we all need from time to time (badges?), or are likely to be needed?
I'm afraid I can't do much apart from throw in ideas and suggestions.
Over to you chaps.

I think the best solution is for a simple online searchable database. containing what the part is, condition, for sale or swap and contact details for who has it..
then if you need a part contact directly the owner.
getting stuff in one place sounds a bit difficult.
maybe its somthing petrol ted could add to the forums ?
a mod to the classified ad sytem

good idea. WOuld even be useful as a 'stop gap' replacement to get the car back on the road quickly whilst waiting for a new part to be sourced/delivered. Ive been waiting weeks for some bits which I'm sure will arrive sometime but no definite date as yet. Another thought , which has been at the back of my mind for several years would be a 'special' tools pool. There a re a lot of tools that make the job easier but are hard to justify buying for a one off job. Things like the oft quoted Churchill tools. Just a thought anyway
So that's the way to do it!
A parts list or register on this site - with the permission of Mike Bressington, naturally.
Gerry Attrick has kindly offered to co-ordinate it - send your submissions to him. If there is someone else who would like to work with him (if he wants) or assist in any way, maybe you could contact him.
Hopefully within a few weeks we can have a good register of parts to help us keep out beloved chariots in fine fettle. The list can be updated as and when bits are bought and when new parts are made available on the list.
There could even be some form of help for commercial operators on the register if we show which parts or types of parts are available from what companies in an index - an easy reference guide.
I think if we all know that it is going to start, the ball will get rolling.
Will that be alright with you Mike? May we do it?

as I understand it the forum is part of pistonheads which is linked from the wedgepages.... but they are seperate?
I can provide webhosting for this F.O.C. if needed - I have plenty of spare bandwidth, space and databases that I would be happy to make available if whoever was developing this wanted it. I am not skilled enough to write it myself but I can offer somewhere to put it
I'm not on this forum much these days so if its wanted pls email me

As well as having a spare parts list, tools available list, how about a person able to help with fixing list. I'm sure there are a few of us able to offer physical help in fault finding in different parts of the country.
I know anyone could visit me for help or ask me to assist within a reasonable distance from Reading.
My BBW Support vehicle is nearly up and running so could almost be a travelling mechanic in my spare time with enough space to carry the parts and enough tools to rebuild a car !
