Dip Stick !

Anyone got a spare V8 dip stick.. the bottom bit of mine is in my sump :(

Yeah I'd drain the oil & hope it comes out. If not, try magnetising a screwdriver or a long bit of thick iron wire and poke it into the drain hole, above the baffle, you might get lucky.

I'm not too worried about it as it is heavy and will sit at the bottom of the sump.

I have ordered a new sump gasket as I'd like to be sure it's all in good order down there. Can't resist a look

GSX - if you can find it and bring it along to the BBWF that would be great .. got to be worth a beer

A bit off the point but just to show that Wedges aren't expensive to maintain. I leant over to check the washer bottle fluid on my wife's Volvo, and broke the plastice end off the dip stick. Called up the Volvo dealer, who said as new dipstick was £13, but I had to have a revised one, which also needed a new dip stick tube at another £16. To change the tube you need to remove the radiator and the power steering pump and also drain the oil. So add £50 for fresh oil and coolant plus 2 hours labour at £80. This comes to £280 including VAT.

I can only say a spinning mass of metal (crank) broke it.. there is no little bracket to hold it in the correct place..

I just put it back in the wrong place after adjusting the tappets

You're not having much luck at the moment, think of BBWF
