What should the oil pressure go up to?

In the last couple of days its gone up very high on the gauge - yesterday 70psi and today 100psi ! Then it'll drop down to 20 psi or so within a minute - usually after going around a roundabout.

All the power is still there so I presume there is something wrong with the signal being sent to the gauge?

Should I be worried?

I would guess duff sender or perhaps a broken wire at the sender.

Have a word with Neil at TVRcarparts.com sorted me out a sender in double quick time. There are lots of different types and threads.

Those that gasped in awe at my externally mounted oil pressure gauge now know why it's there ( I think tallbloke took a snap ?)

My TVR oil pressure goes the other way, nearly always reads low ( 0 - 20) when the mechanical gauge reading 20 - 50

Hi cdt, personally i would confirm oil pressure with an external pressure tester, if this confirms high oil pressure no point in buying parts you dont need, could be sticking pressure relief valve.

Is there any danger of damaging the engine with high pressure if it is the relief valve sticking?

I'll take it along to have it checked out at the weekend.
