Guys,

having a problem with the lights on my 400se and want to check the light switch but I cannot get the switch out of the panel.

Have got the veneer panel off and can get the top of the light switch out about 0.5cm from the panel but thats it. The bottom of the switch will not budge.

I can do the same with all the other rocker switches: Fan, Windowsx2 and fog light, which would imply I am doing something wrong.

Any help appreciated.

They can be quite fiddly to remove. Have you slid off the fibre optic housing from the back of the switch, and unplugged the multi-pin connector?

At the moment cannot get to the back of the switches as the slide controls for the heater/ventilation are located above them.

Do/will I need to remove the sliders to get access to the switches ?

Have you also undone the panel under the veneer or are you trying to reach round through the footwell or the radio gap ?

as Badredwedge says, you'll have to remove the heating / vent slider control - held to the front panel with 4 machine type screws.

Guys,

MOT on Friday and need quick fix to the following:

light switch to first position = headlights up and side lights on.

light switch to second position = headlights down lights on.

Will the following keep the lights UP and ON ?

- Switch ignition to on.

- light switch to first position = headlights up and on.

- Remove Left and Right hand headlamp motor relays, components numbers 76 and 77 according to the bible.

Sorry mate not sure on the answer to that but if you have taken the veneer off you may as well undo the # self tappers that hold the metal plate on and then when you prize it away all will become apparent behind.

Take the switch out, you can flick the slider off but make sure you note where the contacts and springs etc are as they will srig off the back. Clean them up with a bit of emery cloth, reassemble and spray some silicone lube in it and she'll be right.

Chunder,

thanks for the response. Fortunately the switch started working on the morning of the MOT. Got two weeks holiday coming up so will take sometime to try and sort things out.
