Macau Race Footage
Discussion
Right. I need to be a bit cautious about how much bandwidth I use on the server, so would anyone who wants a copy of the short version of the Macau race footage of the factory SEAC please mail me, and I'll get back to you with a username and password and a URL so you can download it. I'll stagger the downloads by asking each person I send the info to to get back to me when they've recieved it, so you won't get an instant reply. For example, I'm off out now for a couple of hours, so please bear with me.
It's 120 Megabytes, so if you are on a dialup connection, wait until it goes out on next years DVD ;)

It was a street race back in the 80's.
Roops Dad drove the Cosworth powered S and Steve Cole drove the yellow SEAC.
it was actually '87 for the "Gentleman's Racers Club TVR Challenge
I belive the video is Roops.
Macau is a 50min high speed ferry away from HK. All gambling and prostution from what I could tell when I went.

I mailed Roop and asked him to reply to this thread with some more background info on the footage he uploaded to my server, hopefully he'll be along shortly. In the extended version, which will go out on next years DVD, there is footage of the cars being loaded onto the ferry. Not a high speed jobby in those days, the cars get swung into the hold individually by crane, spinning gently round and missing the edges of the hatch by millimetres.
Jeff Morgan was the first to email with a request for the download details, so when he gets back to me with the all clear it's wedge350 next. Sorry to be cautious with the server access, but I share it with others and don't want to rock the boat too hard!

Sorry I'm late to the thread guys. The story is approximately as follows. In 1987, TVR were in the process of developing the TVR 'Evolution S'. This was an S powered by the Four Cylinder Ford Cosworth turbo engine from the Sierra Cosworth. As it happens the turbo motor cost an awful lot more than a Rover V8 so the V8S was born some years later instead.
In the meantime, the racing version was being developed at the factory by Chris 'Hermann the German' Schirle. It featured a modified S body with a huge carbon fibre and aluminium rear wing and front splitter. The engine was a Terry Hoyle developed unit from the Homologation Sierra RS500 Cosworth and pumped out up to 520bhp, although lower power levels through lower boost were run to prolong engine life.
The car's first outing was at Macau (literally, it went to the far East and was completed in a car park...!). The car was entered in 'The 1987 Gentleman Racer's Club TVR Challenge' - a race run by the HK GRC. The car, driven by my dad, John Kent, qualified last on the grid as the propshaft to the Hewland transaxle became dislocated on it's first quialification lap. After repairs it started the race and during the race came through to first place, passing the pole position 420 SEAC driven by Steve Cole.
The car was then raced by the factory in the Modsports category on 1988, again, driven by my dad. In 1989, the Tuscan Challenge started and the rest, as they say is history. The car languished at the factory for some time before being sold. It ended up in France at one point, then Scotland. I expect the only person that knows where it is these days in TVR MoSports supremo, John Reid.
Any Q's shout up...!
PS : Sorry for the video quality, my VHS master was terrible from the day I got it in '87
