Polishing alloys anyone?

Hi,

Further to my previous posting (alloys refurb Wales)

I have decided to give it a go myself.........

Therefore before i start has anybody with the 15 inch lattice style alloys done the same?

At present they are in very good condition with body colour centres,and the rim having been diamond cut and laquered at some time in its past............
The laquer has now started to peel leaving horrible staining!!

I would really like to totally remove the laquer and polish the alloy to a mirror like shine whilst leaving the centres alone as they are superb

Questions..........
1,paint remover for the laquer?
2,rotary flap wheel/wire brush for the laquer?
3,or just hrs of work with wet n dry?

Any help would be very welcome.

Can't suggest what you need, but our TT has what Audi call 'competition' alloys. They are the highly polished ones that look really cool (to me anyway). After 5 years the girlfriend has just about completely removed the rim lip through kerbing and there is lacquer damage all over. So I have now found somewhere that will refurbish them (not easy).

One thing the refurber said was do I want them lacquered. He recommended that I do not. I agreed.

Hi Rob,

A mate of mine is in the business of refurbishing alloys.
He's based near Rochdale, Lancs. and is mobile but I doubt he's go as far as Wales.

If you were in the area anytime or pehaps met him half way he may be able to sort something out withh you.

I gave him a set of my old TVR lattice alloy a while ago to test his gear out on and he polished them up a treat.

Cdt,that is the exact effect i am looking for,only difference is mine are not the split rim type....

Are they laquered? if not do they require a lot of work to keep them looking that good?

It is flipflopgriff's car. I think they were lacquered by mistake and once the lacquer was removed, the chap from the polishing company was bringing the shine back.

Best thing to do is to ask flipflopgriff.
