Judging by your previous posts are you trying to make your 350 sound like a SE or SEAC? ........like all the Chimaera or Tuscan owners do??
If so, just save your sheckles and either get somebody to make you a custom exhaust system and spec it up how you want it or just go out and buy a 400. In my opinion the 350i's sound better than any 400 (or my 450) anyhow.

Tend to agree, my 350 sounds better than my SEAC.
Ring Tim here www.actproducts.co.uk/ He will do you a loud or louder Zorst.

I would just like a slightly louder sound at idle/constant speed. I love the sound the SEAC has at idle on the Clarkson video.
If the other SE models sound worse then why did TVR change the exhaust?
Should have paid more attention to how all the other wedge's sounded at the BBWF.
Need to do some thinking then, custom exhaust or keep it how it is.

I ordered a sports centre box/section for my 400 from Tim Lamont at ACT.
Sounds purrfect..the right combination. Not to loud or 'chuggy' at tickover...but give it some berries over 2500-3000 rpm and.....
I really missing my wedge now

Hi mate i have a 350i just had a custom system made up. It needed new headers so got them from RT. Blueflame in Skelmersdale made up the rest in S/Steel, its just straight thru two pipes to the back were it exits through a straight through box on each side. It sounds great and turns heads, but can still be driven quietly if carefull with the loud pedal.
Taking a niose meter home tonight from work to see if i have any chance of getting it through track day noise restrictions. Does any one have any knowledge or previous experience were they measure the sound ie how far away from the back of the car? Anyone else struggling to get on track because of noise?

My 350 sounded nicer than my 450 also - the 450 is louder yes - much louder - and the exhaust note is harsher and rises quicker from deep base to a howl to a real scream but at idle and lower revs it's an uneven spit whereas the 350 was a nice rumble and was great when cruising.
I think the idle sound on the bigger engined cars depends a lot on cam and state of tune.
I know I probably need to talk to a specialist like ACT but:
Upon some reflection, you are all right the sound of the 350 exhaust is a better sound than the later car's exhausts. Is a stainless steel 'copy' of the standard exhaust going to sound fairly similar?
The car sounds best just after its been driven hard, it is a deeper sound, presumably as the exhuast is hotter, is it possible to get this sound all the time?

I don't know if the 400se sound better or worse as the 350i I had. The sound is very different, the 400 is more raw and shouting the 350 more mannered a with beautiful build up with the rev's. Sound between 350i's differs to as mine was louder and less deep than my brothers...
But nothing beats a big wedge firing up!!

I agree with racing snake, get a custom place to make you an exhaust, it will be cheaper and less hassle. I bought a part S/S section to fit onto my TVR 350i - the rest of the system was orignal TVR - so you think it would fit easy?! It took 10 days to arrive "From Stock", the fit was appauling and was as expensive as hell. Public forum means I can't say who. Needless to say my money won't be finding its way there again.
I had a local place make me steel manifolds, and a twin exit S/S exhaust on a different V8 car I had, which was cheaper, sounded better, and was less hassle. Wish I had had the time to use them again - still you live and learn.

I agree - custom made the way to go.
I have recently had half of my system replaced by a place near Birmingham called "Sound proof systems" in Tipton. (Tel 0121 520 6006). I see from your profile you are not too far away in Warwickshire.
At the time, they quoted £200 for a new system in s/s but I only had half replaced. It took about an hour to fabricate and fit, quality is good and far cheeper then other alternatives - and the sound is just awsome.
If you pick up a copy of Autotrader, there are many different companies listed under "powerflow". I don't know how you decide which is best mind....

cdt said:No. The early 390SEs had twin rear pipes. Those off the production line after October '85 had the revised A-frame rear suspension and single "sewer" exhaust developed by Chris Schirle on "The Fast Lane Car" in early '85 - Streaky
Am I right in thinking the 390SE/420SE/450SE/400SE all had the same exhaust?
I had a place make mine in stainless for the 350i in Nottingham, and it sounded just as good as the mild steel one.
www.pdgough.co.uk/
It's still running after 12 years, on its second car.
They did, however, say they didn't want to make another wedge exhaust!!!

I had an exhaust made for my '85 390 (Twin rear pipes) by PD Gough.
I took the car there for them to fit it while I spent a day in Nottingham, a year after that I went back to have them do the manifolds.
This was quite a few years ago and it is still as good as the day it was put on.
I would go back there again but I don't think I'll have to.
