Working on the next part of frame modifications and plan on making a roll bar for a 280i. Would anyone have pictures of attachment points for their roll bar?? I've been able to find a few finished pictures but none of the actual frame attachments.
Also, I can't find the search tab.... maybe my mobile phone isn't allowing it??

Mine drops down on the main verticals and goes through the floor and is bolted to the chassis. The two rear inclined tubes go through the boot and bolt to the two top suspension mounts and I've a centre bar that also goes through the body and bolts to the chassis. The car had a body off rebuild over 25 years ago, so chassis had additional plates added to take the roll bar. Where the bar passes through the rear deck it has been fibreglass in, so bit of a problem in the future if the body needs removing.

There are pictures of a roll bar fixing in Steve Heath's Bible. This method used U clamps as the chassis wasn't being refurbed / author didn't want to weld the chassis.

Thanks for the replies
Yes, that's one of the sites that I have been using for reference
I get the concept of the rear mounts at the upper side of the shock mount
This also has a support spot for the body
The upper mount for the diff carrier is right there as well
My concern is loosing the body support brace

Would you be able to screenshot a few of the pictures?
I tried searching for it but I don't find it.
I'm in the US so I might be limited

But getting to the US maybe prohibited.

To be fair, could do with a cross brace or double cross adding to the rear struts.

Fitted one to my 200 a good few years ago now. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of the mounting points. The main hoop was bought from Roll Centre (no longer around). It had a large plate welded to each end of the tube. This plate fitted just inside the fibreglass body and lined up with the large plate on the outrigger. I drilled through the body and outrigger plate and then put in spacers so the roll bar was in effect bolted directly to the outrigger plate. I then sealed up around the spacers where they went through the body. The 2 tubes going back were mounted on the rear body mounting plate, again with spacers so the body wasn't being crushed. It's all bolted in and so it can be removed if necessary.
Had the added benefit of stiffening up the chassis a fair bit.

Cheers Steve

Some years ago (15-20?), this was a major topic on PH as a number of folks did it. IIRC there were a number of pictures along with all the warnings that 1) the windshield frame isn't "structural" and 2) w/o a helmet, you would bop your noggin on the roll bar. Grady

Quite true. IIRC it's very difficult for most to achive a useful and safe roll bar in a wedge car but none of the problems ever seemed to stop anyone. The motorsport rule of 2" above the top of the helmet makes it tight and that's assuming that you have a harness, if not I think the recommendation was 6". Without a helmet, as mentioned above, I think that whacking your head sideways on the roll bar set up was a major worry. People posted about accidents that they'd seen where the worst had happened...

I'm certainly not into head-banging....
Would be great to stiffen things up a bit as well as increasing safety
Have been trying to figure out access to the top of the rear member bolts along with the hole for the mount to the rear of the frame but they might be too far apart
I'll certainly do my best to throw some pictures on here
